A classroom discussion.
Silence from students, but still the percussion
Of chairs squeaking, feet tapping
And fingers drumming on the desk surround the room,
Like a song playing on a stereo.
Who's gonna talk first?
Who's gonna take that leap into the quiet abyss?
Heart's pounding, the teacher staring down at us,
Waiting for a student to fall into the trap.
What if what we say isn't considered "correct?"
We're all afraid that we'll be laughed at,
That our words won't resonate in the way we thought they would.
Finally, the silence is broken.
One student, hiding in the back,
Dares to break the wall that held us back from sharing our ideas.
Suddenly a flood of stories crashed over the class.
Why was this so difficult?
All it took was one student to open their lips,
And the class jumped on board.
The same can be said for anything.
There are so many times where society is scared to do something,
But once one individual takes a stand,
The world can be changed forever.
Life is just a series of decisions made by individuals
That ended up spreading like a wildfire across the globe.
Be that person to change the world.
Open the gates and lead the others to greatness.
The next time you have a class discussion,
Just talk.
