Bearer of Bad News

Bad news arrives in the thick of night
It rides in on its silent steed
Its darkness untouchable by moonlight
It gallops along the vacant streets
Its hooves make less noise than the sleeping trees
It ignores our bedtime praying pleads
Bad news arrives in the thick of night

Bad news arrives in the sunshine hour
When hearts are light and full of love
And with a quick yet deadly power
It shoots down our peaceful dove
Lifeless, we fall from up above
Wondering from where the shot could have come
Bad news arrives in the sunshine hour

Bad news arrives with a warning sign
A choked up voice pierces our heart
When we see that nothing is really fine
Quickly and frantically our spirits dart
Sprinting away from the bitter and tart
Scared of the devastation about to start
Bad news arrives with a warning sign

Bad news arrives in a disguise
Hidden by things we thought had joyus smiles
We think vulnerability is wise
From this thing could come no trials
We don’t dig deep into the piles
Unmasking things dark and vile
Bad news arrives in a disguise

Bad news is a brief visitor
For news becomes old fast

A gossiping ear makes a willing listener
News travels until facts become past
Tough times do not last
But their scars leave a frightful cast
Bad news is a brief visitor
